Course Description:
This course has been adapted from Enhancement Courses traditional hands-on course of the same title. This online version contains website links, updated information, and asynchronous discussions with the instructors and other students. Participants will learn how to recognize gang behavior in their classrooms, schools and communities, and understand gang mentality and influence in America today. Such awareness leads to improved classroom and school climate and safety. This course features excellent audio and visual presentations by probation officers and gang experts from Orange County, California. Also featured are authentic examples from gangland, an important gang assessment tool from the National School Safety Center, and powerful, insightful reading that delves deep into the gang psyche. This course is designed for K-12 teachers, Teachers of Title I, Title III (ELL), Title VII and Gifted Students, Mentor/Lead Teachers, Resource Teachers, Administrators, Counselors, Instructional Aides and Parents.

  • Unit 5 - Ethnic & Regional Gangs: Vietnamese; Skin Heads
  • Unit 6 - Awareness & Application: Warning signs; Tools & strategies; Assessment Tool

Class Participation/Attendance:

Participants meeting course syllabus requirements earn a grade of CR, according to points earned in the course. Participants who do not complete course requirements within six (6) months of registration will receive a grade of NC (No Credit). Grade will be recorded on an official transcript.
